Unvaulted

Hello everyone.

I’m writing this post to address once and for all what’s going on with the download links, in hopes of reducing redundant reports (it’s not gonna happen, people don’t read.)

So anyways, I have said before that the way we did downloads initially (when the website launched) was too expensive so we discontinued that. Since then, we’ve been looking for a sustainable solution to the problem. Sustainable meaning preferably free or very cheap, since we do not make any money from this project at this time. You must understand that the team has put an insane amount of resources into this project for absolutely no return, so the people in our reports demanding a download experience, like you would get from big companies, is quite funny and also unrealistic (and dare I say entitled.)

Anyways, we have tried literally everything we could, and I will not, at least right now, break down why each service ended up being a no. Just know that we’ve been trialing a multitude of hosting platforms for months now and we have come to a decision to stick with one. (Hopefully this will be the end of it now.)

However, this platform doesn’t come without a drawback, because what free platform does. Unfortunately the ads on it are not ideal, and I will admit this. If any of you are OGs and were around when we launched our first website (Accursed Hoard), you might remember Anonfiles, the hosting platform we used while it was still around. It’s kind of the same idea, Anonfiles had about the same ads as the new platform we are migrating to has. (Downloads .exe files, redirects to websites you don’t want to show your grandma, etc.) This is annoying, but weighing the pros and cons against each other, on top of all the other platforms we have tried so far, it’s the best option we got. Also the most realistic for us long-term and just in general.

Of course, this genuinely doesn’t need to be an issue. I didn’t even know it had those kinds of ads until we started trialing the platform and gotten reports about the ads. Why? Because I have uBlock Origin enabled on everything at all times. I also use LibreWolf for my browser and legit never see any ads. It never even crossed my mind that there could be people still rawdogging the internet in the year of our lord 2024. Listen, all I’m saying is Chrome users with zero protection need to get out of my report channel.

Anyways, unless something better comes along (doubt it), we are sticking with this host and going to start the process of moving all of our downloads over to it. Our current one is FINE but we are having a lot of issues with it recently, and it also costs money. Additionally, the new platform will enable bulk downloading from creators down the line, so that is something we are thinking about implementing.

Overall, if you do not like this change because you are unable to get past the ads, you are welcome to join our Telegram to still download your mods without all this extra steps (you should totally have uBlock Origin on the regular though.)

On another note, we are aware of all the changes the upcoming expansion will bring forth, and we are not yet sure how it’s going to be handled on the website. One thing we know for certain is that no mod is getting deleted, no matter if it’s borked or not. If it’s paid/discord booster exclusive/taken down/discord server exclusive, it’s gonna be here. DT ready or not.
